Is the free plan enough?
If you use dictation the way it is meant to be used, no. Someone who talks to Claude Code, Cursor or ChatGPT for real dictates 5,000 to 10,000 words a day; the free plan is gone by Monday lunch. The free tier is a trial with a cap, which is a fair way to sell a cloud product that costs them money per word.
What you get for $15
Cloud recognition in 100+ languages, an app on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android with one synced dictionary, meeting notes on Mac, and an MCP connection to Claude and ChatGPT. It is a good product. It is also cloud-only: your voice and the text go to their servers, and the Windows app is a port of the Mac one that reviewers have found heavy.
A narrower option for Windows
Holdkey is accurate voice input for AI work on Windows. Local mode runs on your PC and remains free; Founder Pro is $10 a month and adds managed Smart recognition plus unlimited Clean. If Smart is unavailable, Holdkey uses the completed Local transcript. The trade: Windows only, English first, no phone app. See the measured Local latency and the limits of the current data.
